What it is. The clay your barber actually makes. Dead Sea Clay is a mineral styling clay with a strong, remoldable, all-day hold and a true matte finish. Made by hand in Kalamazoo, Michigan by two working barbers.

Who it's for. If you have thick, coarse or unruly hair and you want it to stay put without the greasy look, I would suggest the Dead Sea Clay. It's Adam's own daily driver, and it's the jar guys reach for when they wear a hat or a hard hat all day and need to restyle when it comes off.

How to use it. Start with bone dry hair. Short hair takes one dime-sized scoop. Two or three inches on top takes two nickel-sized scoops. Emulsify it in your hands first until it feels like wet, smooth mud. Sides and back first, then the top. Finish with a fine-tooth comb or your fingers. A little goes a long way, and you can restyle it any time. A jar runs about a month.

How it feels. True matte. Not greasy, not an oil slick. Your hair still feels like hair, it holds all day without flaking or cracking, and it rinses out with water in one normal shower.

What makes it different. Most clays get their hold from Synthetic Hold, a sugar-based hold that flakes and cracks when you touch it. Dead Sea Clay holds with minerals: Dead Sea clay and Black Hawaiian Sea Salt on a wax-based hold that won't dry out your hair. Made by hand in small batches. No backdoor chemist.
