Our Foster Story
For our entire lives, Jake and I both grew up in homes where we never knew who would be there for dinner. Whether it was Jake's parents taking in his brother Michael from Kenya or my house being filled with random college students who had parents serving in the mission field or were too far from home to go back between semesters, very rarely was it ever only our immediate biological families at home. Even going to my annual family reunion in Eastern Kentucky, our Chinese-American neighbor accompanied us.
It was a forgone conclusion that our future homes would reflect those similar patterns. Then we met women with even bigger passions who were better at paperwork.
Jake's wife Erika saw Machine Gun Preacher at 15 and hasn't changed course since. She bought a home as a single woman in her early 20's so she could start fostering youth. Since then, she and Jake has adopted 5 children from foster care and fostered even more.
As for Adam and Sarah, we weren't in quite the same rush. We are currently fostering 2 six year-olds, recently had a beautiful baby girl for a month and cherish our role as Tio and Tia for a teen mom and her little lady.
We love that we can integrate our business with our passion by partnering with different foster care organizations around the country. Currently, we are donating 3% of all sales from our Foster the Hair line to the Dream of Kalamazoo Foundation to provide hair cutting and styling services for children in the foster care system or who have been adopted.
